ARLINGTON, Texas — Prior to Friday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal in the Cotton Bowl, the roads surrounding AT&T Stadium were largely clear and dry. Concerns had emerged about possible transportation challenges following a winter storm that swept through the area on Thursday, bringing a mix of sleet and snow.
The game was set to occur indoors at AT&T Stadium, which features a retractable roof and typically hosts such events, including numerous games played by the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. While parts of North Texas experienced snowfall of up to 7 inches during the storm, Arlington itself recorded only about 2 inches.
As Friday afternoon approached, temperatures hovered in the 30s but remained just above freezing. This allowed for only minor remnants of snow and ice to linger on grassy patches surrounding the stadium. Fortunately, the sun appeared a few hours before kickoff, improving conditions even further.
Despite the smooth vehicular access to the stadium, some fans might have faced challenges due to flight delays and cancellations at both Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas’ Love Field. Numerous disruptions continued throughout Friday, even after the storm had passed.
On Thursday, the teams, Texas and Ohio State, successfully conducted their final practice sessions inside AT&T Stadium, unhindered by the wintry conditions outside.
