NEW YORK — A collection of writings by celebrated author Harper Lee, known for her masterpiece “To Kill a Mockingbird,” is set for release this autumn.
Titled “The Land of Sweet Forever,” this compilation features short stories dating to the period before the 1960 debut of her acclaimed novel, along with essays penned from 1961 to 2006. HarperCollins Publishers, through its Harper imprint, will make this collection available on October 21. The book will feature an introduction by Casey Cep, Lee’s authorized biographer.
Dr. Edwin Conner, Harper Lee’s nephew, expressed the family’s joy in uncovering and sharing these previously known, yet only recently discovered, works. In a statement released Tuesday, he conveyed, “We’re thrilled that these essays and short stories have been found and are being published. She was not just our beloved aunt, but an iconic American writer. Understanding her journey to literary greatness is invaluable to us.”
Harper Lee, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 89, did not publish any new, complete books after her iconic work, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” However, in 2015, she consented to the publication of “Go Set a Watchman,” which was an earlier draft of her most famous novel.
