WASHINGTON — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is making efforts to eliminate the number of Americans who are detained or held hostage overseas, announced Director Kash Patel at a recent State Department event dedicated to honoring both hostages and their families. During Thursday’s flag-raising ceremony, Patel assured that he will utilize all resources at the FBI’s disposal to prevent additional families from suffering such painful experiences.

He emphasized, “My singular promise to you in this community is that I will do everything as the director of the FBI to marshal the resources necessary to make sure that no other American family feels that pain.”

Currently, the Trump administration is actively working to bring home U.S. citizens from various countries, including Russia and Venezuela. Additionally, efforts are being made to negotiate the release of American hostages still held by Hamas. Adam Boehler, nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as a special envoy for hostage affairs, is spearheading the direct negotiations with the militant organization.

Despite these efforts, Patel expressed continued concern, saying, “We still don’t have everybody back. Whatever lawful authorities we have at the FBI, we are going to give 24/7, 365 days to make sure that we zero out this number and to make sure we prevent others from going into situations that you are now all too familiar with.”

The FBI hosts a multi-agency coordination center specializing in cases involving American hostages in foreign nations. Concurrently, the State Department relies on a special presidential envoy to engage in negotiations for the release of unlawfully detained Americans, a role Boehler is set to fulfill.

Boehler stated on Thursday, “When the president asked me if there was any job that I thought that I wanted to focus on, I told him that this was the only one I would look at because I think there’s nothing more important for this country than for everyone to know that if they’re abroad and they’re taken, that the country has their back.”

Recently, the Trump administration facilitated the return of Marc Fogel, an American teacher who was imprisoned in Russia on drug-related charges. This was achieved through a prisoner exchange, marking a significant step in bringing Americans back home.
