Amazon is experimenting with a new AI-assisted dubbing service for selected movies and television shows available on its Prime streaming platform.
The company announced that this innovative dubbing method involves the replacement of original audio tracks with translations in different languages. This technology will be applied to certain titles that previously didn’t have dubbed versions, such as the 2003 animated movie “El Cid: La Leyenda.”
Based in Seattle, Amazon revealed that its AI-powered dubbing will offer versions in both English and Latin American Spanish. Initially, this service will be launched for 12 licensed titles within their library.
Amazon emphasizes that this program will utilize a hybrid approach, allowing local professionals to work alongside AI technology, ensuring the quality of the dubbed content.
This move by Amazon follows similar initiatives by other tech giants who have incorporated AI into their platforms for dubbing purposes. Last year, YouTube unveiled a feature that enables content creators to provide translations of their videos in various languages. Additionally, Meta stated in September that they were testing an AI tool designed to automatically translate voices in its Reels feature.
