COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a thrilling display of basketball, Collin Murray-Boyles recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out, leading South Carolina to a decisive victory over Texas with a score of 84-69. This win marked the end of a disheartening 13-game losing streak for the Gamecocks, who are now sitting at a record of 11-16 overall and 1-13 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Gamecocks were determined to shake off their tough season, and they delivered an impressive performance against a Texas team that had recently defeated No. 15 Kentucky. South Carolina quickly established a commanding lead, going up by double digits early on and extending their advantage to as much as 22 points during the second half.
Murray-Boyles made his presence felt right from the start, scoring eight of the Gamecocks’ first ten points. Following a three-pointer by Jacobi Wright with just under nine minutes left in the first half, South Carolina surged to a 20-10 lead and headed to halftime with a substantial margin of 40-22 — their largest lead of the season.
The second half began with an emphatic dunk by Nick Pringle that kept South Carolina ahead by 20 points. Moments later, Zachary Davis followed suit with another dunk, amplifying the lead to 22 points.
Despite Murray-Boyles fouling out with just over four minutes remaining, Texas struggled to find a solution against South Carolina’s relentless defense. Tramon Mark managed to hit a corner three-pointer that narrowed the Longhorns’ deficit to 12 points, but it wasn’t enough as South Carolina sealed their victory with a series of ten consecutive free throws.
Jamarii Thomas was particularly effective from the charity stripe, sinking 12 of his 13 attempts to finish the game with 15 points. Zachary Davis contributed with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Morris Ugusuk hit all three of his three-point attempts to tally 10 points for the Gamecocks.
On the other side, Texas was led by Tre Johnson, who scored 29 points with an impressive shooting performance, going 11 for 21 from the field and perfect from the free-throw line. However, he was the only Longhorn player to reach double digits in scoring during the contest.
Looking ahead, Texas is set to face Arkansas on Wednesday, while South Carolina will take on No. 15 Missouri on Tuesday.
