ANAHEIM, Calif. — Trevor Zegras, a forward for the Ducks, exited the game against the Vegas Golden Knights due to a lower-body injury.
Zegras departed early in the second period on Wednesday night, appearing to be unable to put any weight on his injured leg. The Ducks promptly announced that he would not be returning to the game.
The specific circumstances surrounding Zegras’ injury remain unclear; however, it was not the result of a collision. After taking a faceoff in the defensive zone, he spun around and awkwardly fell when his stick became entangled with that of William Karlsson. Zegras quickly gestured to the bench for assistance and required help to make his way off the ice.
The 23-year-old forward is renowned for his innovative puck-handling skills and his ability to score “Michigan” goals, but this incident marks what could be his third significant injury in just over a year.
Last season, Zegras was limited to only 31 games due to two injuries, one of which was an ankle issue that necessitated surgery. This season, he has participated in all 23 games for Anaheim, tallying four goals and six assists.
Zegras was selected ninth overall in the 2019 draft. In his five seasons with the Ducks, he has scored a total of 59 goals in 235 games.
