Caitlin Clark sets new WNBA game assist record with 19 in Fever’s defeat against Wings

Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark set a new WNBA record for assists in a single game on Wednesday night in the Fever’s 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings. Clark finished the game with an impressive 19 assists, surpassing the previous record of 18 held by Courtney Vandersloot for Chicago since August 31, 2020. Vandersloot also recorded 18 assists in a playoff game on September 28, 2021.

The previous rookie record for assists in a game was 16, achieved by Ticha Penicheiro for Sacramento on July 29, 1998. Clark’s record-breaking assist occurred when she set up Kelsey Mitchell for a 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining in the game, tying the score at 93. However, Dallas finished strong with an 8-0 run to secure the victory.

Clark came into the game leading the WNBA in assists per game this season. In addition to her record-breaking assists performance, she also contributed 24 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the field. Clark’s remarkable performance highlighted her skills as a playmaker on the court during the game.
