MILWAUKEE — A special ceremony is scheduled to commemorate the life of iconic broadcaster Bob Uecker on August 24, prior to the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants. This tribute will take place at the Brewers’ stadium, granting fans the opportunity to celebrate and remember Uecker’s remarkable contributions to baseball and beyond.

The Brewers’ principal owner, Mark Attanasio, initially revealed plans for this summer celebration earlier in January, following Uecker’s passing at the age of 90. However, the exact date of the event was only disclosed this week. The ceremony promises to be a memorable affair, hosted by Emmy-winning broadcaster and long-time friend Bob Costas. Attendees can expect appearances from special guests and exclusive video content capturing rare moments from Uecker’s life.

As a token of remembrance, attendees will receive lapel pins showcasing a unique design that mirrors the Brewers’ uniform patch dedicated to honoring Uecker. With a festive spirit in the air, baseballs and bases adorned with a special Uecker celebration logo will also be utilized during the game. Additionally, a raffle will be conducted to benefit three charities close to Uecker’s heart: the Wounded Warrior Project, the ALS Association, and the Medical College of Wisconsin Bob Uecker Chair for Cancer Research.

Reflecting on the upcoming event, Bob Uecker Jr., son and family representative, expressed gratitude to the Brewers for hosting such a powerful commemoration. “This Celebration of Life allows us to come together, remember, and cherish the beautiful moments we had with him,” he stated.

Over his illustrious 54-year career, Uecker became a beloved voice of Brewers baseball, continuing his work even after his small cell lung cancer diagnosis last year. Known as “Mr. Baseball,” Uecker garnered a devoted following through his comedic flair, notable television appearances alongside Johnny Carson, and memorable roles in Miller Lite commercials, the film “Major League,” and the TV show “Mr. Belvedere.”

Rick Schlesinger, Brewers president of business operations, emphasized Uecker’s lasting impact. “Even in his passing, Bob’s spirit resonates with us in the ballpark and beyond,” Schlesinger remarked. He added that the day will be a chance to relive the countless joyful memories Uecker created effortlessly.
