The MTV Video Music Awards are set for an exciting change this year, as the iconic event finds a new broadcasting partner. For the first time, the awards ceremony will be shown on CBS, according to an announcement by the organizers made public on Thursday.

The three-hour extravaganza is scheduled to air live on CBS on Sunday, September 7, from the UBS Arena, which is located just outside of New York City. Alongside its live broadcast on CBS, the show will be simulcast on MTV and accessible via streaming on Paramount+. These platforms were also instrumental in airing last yearโ€™s edition of the show. Furthermore, a one-hour live pre-show is on the agenda and will be broadcast across the Paramount Media Networks.

CBS is no stranger to major award shows. It currently hosts a variety of them, including the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. Since 1973, CBS has been the platform for the Grammys, although starting in 2027, that show is set to transition over to ABC.

The MTV VMAs in 2024 were particularly notable for Taylor Swiftโ€™s commanding presence; she secured a remarkable seven awards. Among these accolades was the highly coveted video of the year award for โ€œFortnight,โ€ her collaboration track with Post Malone. With this impressive haul, Swift has reached a significant milestone, amassing her career total to 30 VMA wins. This achievement places her in a tie with Beyoncรฉ for the most awards ever won at the VMAs by an artist. Eminem, meanwhile, ranks as the male artist with the most VMA wins, having garnered 15 awards.

First launched in 1984, the VMAs have been a staple in the music industry calendar. Details about nominees and performers are anticipated to be announced as the show date approaches, offering fans something to look forward to as the event draws nearer.
