HENDERSON, Nev. — Cornerback Jack Jones is anticipated to be released by the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a source familiar with the situation. The source requested to remain anonymous since the decision has not yet been completed. Jones, who is 27 years old, had a mixed performance during his tenure with the Raiders. The team had picked him up off waivers after he was let go by the New England Patriots two years ago.
During his time with Las Vegas, Jones appeared in 24 games and was part of the starting lineup in 19 of those. He managed to intercept five passes and impressively returned three of them for touchdowns. However, his record was marred by occasions where he was out of position, enabling opposing wide receivers to exploit gaps for significant gains.
The uncertainty regarding Jones’ future with the Raiders intensified when the team decided to part ways with coach Antonio Pierce in January. Jones and Pierce share a history, having worked together during their time at Long Beach Poly High School in California and Arizona State. After a defeat against Carolina, Pierce seemingly criticized players for making what he termed “business decisions,” which many speculated included Jones. In response, Jones defended himself through social media but was notably absent from the starting roster in the subsequent game against Cleveland, marking his only game last season where he wasn’t a starter.
