Liberty Overpowers WKU 90-61, Clinches C-USA Title

    BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In a decisive victory on Saturday, the Liberty Flames secured the regular-season Conference USA title by overpowering Western Kentucky with a 90-61 triumph. Jay Maughmer and Taelon Peter were pivotal in the Flames’ triumph, each scoring 21 points.

    Maughmer was not only instrumental in scoring but also showcased a well-rounded performance by pulling down 15 rebounds and dishing out six assists, contributing significantly to Liberty’s success this season (25-6, 13-5 Conference USA). Peter supported the team’s effort with an additional nine rebounds, reinforcing Liberty’s dominance on the court. Brett Decker Jr. delivered a solid performance, shooting 5 of 8 from the field with a notable efficiency from beyond the arc, hitting 3 of 5 attempts, and perfecting his accuracy from the free-throw line to accumulate 16 points.

    On the other side, Khristian Lander was the standout player for the Hilltoppers (17-14, 8-10), leading their scoring with 18 points and grabbing two steals. Don McHenry also contributed to Western Kentucky’s efforts, adding 14 points. Jalen Jackson rounded out their contributions with eight points.

    The Conference USA tournament is set to begin this Wednesday in Huntsville, Alabama, and will provide another opportunity for these teams to compete at the next level.
