TORONTO — In a thrilling match against the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Addison Barger made a memorable mark by achieving three outfield assists, setting a shared record for the team. Barger also recorded the fastest throw for an outfield assist in the majors this season, showcasing his exceptional fielding skills.

During Toronto’s 3-1 victory over Seattle, Barger displayed a remarkable throwing arm, posting speeds of 98.8, 96.0, and 93.6 mph. The standout performance makes him the third Blue Jays player to record three assists in one game, joining the ranks of Rick Bosetti in 1979 and Steve Bowling in 1977.

Barger demonstrated his prowess by throwing out Cal Raleigh at second base in the fourth inning and played a key role in trapping Randy Arozarena in a rundown between third and home. His most impressive play came in the fifth inning when he threw out Rowdy Tellez at third base with a throw clocked at 98.8 mph, preventing him from advancing on a fly ball. This was the second-fastest throw by a Toronto outfield player since 2015, outdone only by Barger’s own 100.6 mph throw against the Dodgers earlier in the season.

Barger’s feats were met with admiration and disbelief by his teammates, including right-hander Bowden Francis. Reflecting on the play, Francis shared his astonishment, saying that Barger’s ability was clear even during their time together at Triple-A Buffalo.

Upon reflecting on the play, Barger expressed surprise that Tellez would attempt to tag up on his arm. “I didn’t even think about getting behind it because I knew Rowdy was on second,” Barger admitted. “Once I realized he was actually trying to advance, my instincts just kicked in.”

Francis praised Barger for his remarkable arm strength coupled with accuracy, acknowledging his teammate’s integral role in sealing the win. “That kind of play elevates what he brings to the team. His performance was crucial,” Francis commented.
