NEW YORK — In a much-anticipated return to the French Riviera, Hollywood star Tom Cruise is set to soar into the Cannes Film Festival with his latest adrenaline-pumping installment, “Mission: Impossible — Final Reckoning.” The film will make its splash at the prestigious event just ahead of its worldwide theatrical release.
Announced by festival organizers, the action-packed “Final Reckoning” will be showcased out of competition at the 78th edition of the famed festival on May 14. This special screening precedes the film’s official release date of May 23. Attendees at the Palais des Festivals can expect to see Cruise, along with writer-director Christopher McQuarrie and the film’s cast, gracing the celebrated event.
This marks Cruise’s third feature entry at Cannes, coming after the memorable debut of “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022. That same year bestowed Cruise with an honorary Palme d’Or, celebrating his contributions to cinema. The actor’s return is eagerly anticipated as he continues to hold a revered position in the international film community.
The complete lineup for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which will run from May 13 to 24, is set to be unveiled in Paris on Thursday. Ahead of this announcement, the festival has already shared that legendary actor Robert De Niro will be honored with an honorary Palme d’Or during the opening ceremony on May 13, further highlighting the festival’s blend of new cinematic experiences with the recognition of seasoned talent.
