FREMONT, Neb. — Federal investigators are looking into a tragic plane accident that occurred in Nebraska, resulting in the loss of three lives.
The incident involved a single-engine Cessna 180 aircraft, which was operating along the Platte River.
The plane tragically went down into the water just south of Fremont, around 8:15 p.m., as confirmed by Sgt. Brie Frank from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office during a press briefing.
Sadly, all three individuals aboard the aircraft perished, and their bodies have been recovered at the site.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims, pending notification of family members.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation to ascertain the cause of the crash.
An NTSB investigator was dispatched to the location and was scheduled to arrive on the following Saturday to initiate a thorough examination.
According to the agency, the investigator’s initial tasks will include meticulously documenting the accident scene and inspecting the wreckage.
The aircraft will then be transported to a secure site for an in-depth analysis.
In conjunction with the NTSB investigation, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will also conduct a separate examination, as confirmed by local authorities.
Fremont, the site of this unfortunate event, is situated about 37 miles (60 kilometers) to the west of Omaha.
