LEXINGTON, Ky. — With an impressive display of scoring efficiency, Otega Oweh powered No. 19 Kentucky to a commanding 95-64 victory over LSU on Tuesday night, scoring 24 points on an impressive 9 of 11 from the field.
Notably, Kentucky’s lineup showcased depth, as Ansley Almonor and Brandon Garrison each contributed 15 points, while Collin Chandler added 11 to the team’s total. This performance pushed Kentucky’s record to a solid 20-10 overall and 9-8 in the Southeastern Conference.
LSU, on the other hand, struggled to keep pace despite Robert Miller III’s 15 points, supported by Cam Carter’s contribution of 14 and Jordan Sears’ 13 points. The loss extended LSU’s slump, bringing its record to 14-16 overall and a dismal 3-14 in the conference.
In the first half, Oweh was particularly dominant, racking up 15 points as Kentucky pulled ahead to a significant 50-23 lead by halftime.
For LSU, the defeat marked a continuation of their recent struggles, making it four consecutive losses since achieving back-to-back victories against Oklahoma and South Carolina. Former Kentucky player, Daimion Collins, returned but only managed to post two points against his old team.
Kentucky players who were honored pre-game included senior Almonor and graduate seniors Amari Williams, Andrew Carr, Koby Brea, Jaxson Robinson, and Lamont Butler. This night also celebrated coach Mark Pope’s significant achievement, as he led the Wildcats to their fifth consecutive 20-win season, marking the seventh time in his coaching career reaching this milestone.
A pivotal moment came early in the first half when the Wildcats missed their first three shots. Quickly regrouping, they unleashed a decisive 15-0 scoring burst, their longest streak since a crucial 13-0 run against then No. 22 Texas A&M in mid-January, establishing a commanding 15-2 lead.
One of the key statistics from the match was Kentucky’s remarkable accuracy beyond the arc, sinking 12 three-pointers, while effectively limiting LSU to merely two second-chance opportunities. Dominating the boards, Kentucky also outrebounded LSU with a 37-30 advantage.
Looking forward, Kentucky is set to face No. 15 Missouri on the road this upcoming Saturday. Meanwhile, LSU will host Texas A&M, hoping to break their current losing streak.
