BALTIMORE — In an impressive showcase, AJ Lopez led the way for the Maine Black Bears with an outstanding performance, scoring 24 points as they defeated UMBC with a final score of 87-62 on Saturday.
Lopez not only made significant contributions on the scoreboard but also excelled defensively, recording three steals for his team. Quion Burns had a solid game as well, contributing 19 points alongside 11 rebounds and four steals, highlighting his versatility on both ends of the court. Christopher Mantis chipped in with 11 points, making three shots from beyond the arc, further supporting Maine’s offensive efforts.
On the other side of the court, the Retrievers struggled to keep pace with the Black Bears despite Marcus Banks leading their scoring efforts with 13 points. UMBC’s team record now stands at 9-10, with a 1-3 mark in the America East Conference.
Maine’s latest victory improves their record to 12-8 overall and 4-1 in league play, solidifying their position as a competitive team in the conference.
