In Guangzhou, China, Canada emerged victorious in the inaugural World Relays mixed 4×100-meter competition on Sunday. The Canadian squad, composed of Sade McCreath, Marie-Eloise Leclair, Duan Asemota, and Eliezer Adjibi, secured the top position, surpassing teams from Jamaica and Britain during the event’s global premiere at the World Relays.
The Canadians achieved a commanding finish time of 40.30 seconds, narrowly beating Jamaica, which clocked in at 40.44 seconds. The British and Northern Irish team completed the race in 40.88 seconds, rounding out the top three.
In the men’s relays, South Africa demonstrated their strength by clinching victories in both the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter categories. With Akani Simbine leading the charge, the South African 4×100 team secured a win with a time of 37.61 seconds, outperforming formidable competitors from the United States and Olympic champions Canada.
On the women’s side, Britain secured a win in the 4×100 meters with a time of 42.21 seconds, surpassing teams from Spain and Jamaica. Meanwhile, Spain’s team achieved a national record, securing victory in the women’s 4×400 meters with a time of 3 minutes and 24.13 seconds.
In the mixed category, the United States team set a meet record of 3:09.54 seconds in the 4×400-meter relay, highlighting their exceptional performance in this category.
