NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans will be without forward Zion Williamson for their upcoming matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. This decision comes as he continues to recover from a left hamstring injury.

Williamson made his return to the court on Tuesday after being sidelined for 27 games, where he contributed 22 points in just under 28 minutes during a 104-97 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Post-game, he expressed confidence in his performance but indicated uncertainty about the possibility of playing two nights in a row so soon after his return.

“I definitely feel like my legs are already under me,” Williamson remarked following the game.

Pelicans coach Willie Green noted that Williamson exhibited significant improvement, stating that it was the best he had seen him perform after such a lengthy absence.

In his return, Williamson showcased his dynamic athleticism, completing several impressive dunks, including an incredible alley-oop from CJ McCollum and another high-flying 360-degree maneuver while performing a double pump for a one-handed slam.

Since being selected first overall by the Pelicans out of Duke in 2019, Williamson has faced numerous injuries, resulting in more games missed than played. He has participated in only seven of the team’s 37 games this season, during which the Pelicans have a record of 2-5 with him and a staggering 5-25 without him.

Additionally, forward Trey Murphy will also be absent for the second consecutive game due to a left ankle sprain.

After facing Portland at home, the Pelicans will travel to Philadelphia to compete on Friday night.
