In a surprising twist, Jadon Sancho is set to make his way back to Manchester United following his stint at Chelsea on a season-long loan. The 25-year-old England winger made his announcement on social media late Tuesday, expressing appreciation for his time with the club.

Sancho shared his gratitude and fondness for everyone associated with Chelsea, acknowledging teammates, staff, and fans for making him feel at home during his stay. He wished the club continued success and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Blues.

Chelsea now faces a financial decision; they have the option to pay a five million pounds ($6.75 million) fee to opt out of the obligation to purchase Sancho outright for 25 million pounds ($34 million). This clause was part of the loan agreement made last August.

Sancho’s departure from United initially stemmed from a fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag. At the time, returning to United seemed unlikely, but circumstances have changed since Ten Hag’s departure from the club in October.

Originally signed by United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a hefty sum of 85 million euros ($100 million), Sancho has proven his worth on the field. Notably, he contributed to Chelsea’s recent 4-1 triumph over Real Betis in the Conference League final.
