CLEMSON, S.C. — In an exciting matchup on Wednesday, Clemson triumphed over Stanford with a score of 85-71, propelled by an impressive performance from Chase Hunter, who led the Tigers with 22 points. Chauncey Wiggins made a significant contribution as well, recording a season-high of 17 points.
The game was closely contested, tied at 52 with just under 15 minutes left on the clock. Clemson then surged ahead with a 10-0 run, thanks to scoring from four different players, and Myles Foster extended the lead by scoring the next six points, bringing the score to 68-57. Stanford struggled to narrow the gap for the remainder of the game, unable to come within nine points.
During the first half, Stanford maintained the lead for over 13 minutes, establishing their biggest advantage at 25-17. However, as the second half progressed, their longest run consisted of only five consecutive points.
Clemson, boasting an 11-3 record, has now achieved a 3-0 start in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for the second consecutive season and for the ninth time in the history of the program, following a seven-game winning streak last year. The Tigers capitalized on Stanford’s mistakes, scoring 25 points off their opponent’s 16 turnovers.
In addition to Hunter and Wiggins, Jaeden Zackery added 16 points to Clemson’s tally, while Viktor Lakhin contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks. Wiggins excelled from beyond the arc, making four of the team’s eight three-pointers, and Hunter recorded over 20 points for the third time this season.
On the other side, Stanford’s Oziyah Sellers shone with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Maxime Raynaud also had a notable performance, collecting 14 points and 13 rebounds, marking his nation-leading 11th double-double of the season. Jaylen Blakes supported the team with 13 points.
Looking ahead, Stanford is set to face Pittsburgh on Saturday, while Clemson will remain home to play against California on the same day.
