STARKVILLE, Miss. — In an impressive performance, KeShawn Murphy achieved a season-high of 20 points, leading Mississippi State to a commanding 90-57 victory over No. 18 Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs, now boasting a record of 7-1, maintained control throughout the game, stretching their lead to as much as 35 points in the second half. Michael Nwoko contributed significantly, recording his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alongside him, Josh Hubbard added 12 points, while both Claudell Harris and RJ Melendez chipped in with 10 points each.
For Pittsburgh, which now stands at 7-2, Jaland Lowe was the top performer, scoring 19 points, followed by Brandin Cummings with 12 points. However, the Panthers struggled on the court, shooting only 31% from the field and getting outrebounded 49-27.
Mississippi State wasted no time establishing dominance, quickly building a 25-11 lead after a three-pointer by Hubbard. The Bulldogs, who led by as many as 23 points in the first half, went into halftime with a comfortable 47-25 lead.
In the first half, the Panthers’ shooting woes continued, as they managed just 31% and made 3 of 11 attempts from behind the arc. They only shot two free throws and committed eight turnovers during the half. Meanwhile, Mississippi State showcased a solid offensive display, shooting 54% and converting 4 of their 13 three-point attempts. The Bulldogs capitalized on turnovers, dominating the points-off-turnovers category with an 11-0 advantage, and also exhibited strong control on the boards, out-rebounding Pittsburgh 27-14, including 10 offensive rebounds.
