NY State Police Fatally Shoot Man After Barracks Attack

    MALTA, New York — A man was shot and killed by state troopers on Wednesday after he allegedly opened fire at a State Police barracks in upstate New York, officials reported.
    The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at the Saratoga barracks in the town of Malta, positioned approximately 30 miles north of Albany, the state’s capital. According to police, the man used a “hunting-style rifle” to attack the barracks, releasing several rounds in the process.
    After being alerted to gunfire near the barracks, troopers exited the building and confronted the shooter, ultimately fatally shooting the man, as stated in their report. While the investigation continued, roads around the barracks were temporarily closed for about two hours.
    Officials assured the community that the shooting did not pose any continuing danger to public safety.
