EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Nakyel Shelton was instrumental in Eastern Illinois’ victory over Southern Indiana with a solid performance, scoring 18 points during the game that concluded with a score of 63-54 on Thursday night.
Shelton contributed not only with his scoring but also added five rebounds and three steals to aid the Panthers, who now hold a record of 9-19 overall and 5-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Other notable performances came from Artese Stapleton, who netted 17 points while also grabbing five rebounds and making four steals, and Zion Fruster, who scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, despite a shooting percentage of 5 for 14 from the field.
On the opposing side, Damoni Harrison was the standout player for the Screaming Eagles, scoring 20 points. Stephen Olowoniyi offered support with 16 points and three blocks, whereas Ryan Hall contributed seven points. Unfortunately for Southern Indiana, this game marked their seventh consecutive loss, dropping their record to 9-18, with a 4-13 standing in the conference.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday. Eastern Illinois will be traveling to face Morehead State, while Southern Indiana will be hosting SIU Edwardsville at home.
