GREENSBORO, N.C. — Monmouth secured a victory over North Carolina A&T with a score of 72-63 on Thursday night, with Abdi Bashir Jr. leading the charge by scoring 21 points.
Bashir demonstrated his scoring ability by making 7 of his 18 attempts from the field, which included hitting 1 out of 5 from behind the arc, and maintaining a perfect record of 6 for 6 from the free-throw line. His performance was instrumental in helping the Hawks improve to a 5-13 overall record and 3-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Madison Durr contributed significantly with 16 points and six rebounds, while Jaret Valencia added 11 points, showcasing his efficiency by shooting 3 for 8 from the field and going 4 for 4 from the foul line.
For the Aggies, Jahnathan Lamothe was a standout player, finishing the game with a double-double that included 22 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Forrest also made a notable contribution to the team’s efforts, amassing 19 points and providing four assists.
Monmouth gained control of the game early, establishing a 27-14 lead in the first half by launching a strong 15-2 scoring run. Valencia’s 11 points in the first half helped the Hawks maintain a 45-36 advantage at halftime. The decisive moment came from Dok Muordar, who delivered a critical dunk with 8:43 left in the second half, putting Monmouth ahead 58-56 and securing their lead for the remainder of the game.
