COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — In an exciting match on Saturday night, DeJuan Jones netted his first goal of the season, and Cristian Arango found the back of the net as well, leading the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
The Earthquakes’ goalkeeper, Daniel De Sousa Britto, commonly known as “Daniel,” had an impressive performance with five crucial saves.
The opening score came just before halftime, as Vítor Costa delivered a precise one-touch pass from the left side into the center, setting up Jones perfectly. Jones didn’t hesitate and struck the ball first-time to give San Jose the lead in the second minute of stoppage time.
Arango extended the lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute by capitalizing on a deflected pass from Colorado’s Chidozie Awaziem. Arango chased the loose ball and gracefully chipped it over Colorado’s goalkeeper, Zack Steffen, securing another goal for the Earthquakes.
Zack Steffen managed to stop three shots throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Rapids stretched their winless streak to four games with this defeat.
As for the Earthquakes, this victory marked their second win in a row, coming off a recent triumph over Portland that ended a previous three-game losing spell. San Jose now stands with a record of 5-6-1.
The season opened with a thrilling encounter between the two teams back in March when Steffen accomplished 12 saves, and Calvin Harris scored his sole goal, leading the Rapids to a 2-1 victory over San Jose on the road.
