Jewell Loyd has formally requested a trade from the Seattle Storm.
The six-time WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic medalist made this request known, as confirmed by an individual with knowledge of the situation.
This person provided the information on the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.
Loyd’s trade request emerged shortly after the Storm concluded an investigation into allegations concerning workplace policy violations involving the coaching staff.
A statement released by the team indicated, “No findings of policy violations or any discrimination, harassment or bullying.”
They added that to maintain the integrity of the investigative process and to safeguard confidentiality, they refrained from commenting during the investigation.
The Storm reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all individuals are treated with respect within the workplace.
To address the allegations, the team had enlisted outside counsel to conduct the investigation.
The news of Loyd’s trade request and the investigation was initially reported by local media, and it is noteworthy that Loyd hails from Chicago.
Throughout her career, Loyd has been a steadfast member of the Seattle franchise, playing a key role in securing two WNBA championships since she was drafted first overall in 2015.
Her impressive performance earned her the title of Rookie of the Year in her debut season.
The 31-year-old guard has spent the past three years under the leadership of head coach Noelle Quinn, having also played alongside her as a teammate from 2016 to 2018.
Last offseason, the Storm made significant strides during free agency, bringing in notable players such as Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith.
However, their season ended in disappointment as they were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces.
