Elon Musk has donated Starlink devices to support California first responders battling devastating wildfires. The devices, provided through SpaceX, aim to restore internet and communication capabilities in areas where infrastructure has been destroyed.
Starlinks help bridge communication gaps
Nonprofit group Grey Bull Rescue collaborated with Musk and the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) to deploy Starlink devices over the weekend. These satellite-based devices are crucial in maintaining communication in remote, disaster-affected areas.
Addressing bureaucratic delays
LACFD had previously sought Starlink devices for scenarios like this, but bureaucratic delays hindered progress. Musk’s direct intervention resolved these issues swiftly, with Grey Bull Rescue noting the efficiency of the collaboration.
Cybertrucks deployed for support
In addition to Starlinks, Musk announced the use of Cybertrucks as mobile base stations to power internet terminals in affected areas. While this temporarily delayed some Cybertruck deliveries, Musk assured replacements would be sent soon.
Continued commitment to disaster relief
Musk’s initiative follows similar efforts, such as providing Starlinks in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. Grey Bull Rescue highlighted the critical role of these technologies in supporting evacuation efforts and delivering humanitarian aid during crises.
