GREENVILLE, N.C. — In a closely contested basketball game, RJ Felton’s impressive performance of 27 points powered East Carolina to a narrow 78-76 victory over Charlotte on Sunday.
Felton showcased his shooting skills, hitting 9 of his 17 field goal attempts, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc, and converting 5 of 8 free throws for the Pirates, whose season record now stands at 17-12, including a 9-7 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
Jayshayne Woodard contributed 14 points to the victory, shooting an efficient 4 of 5 from the floor and making 6 of 9 from the free-throw line, while also grabbing five rebounds. Joran Riley chipped in with 13 points.
For the 49ers, Nik Graves was the standout performer, scoring an impressive 32 points and managing two steals despite the team’s loss. He received help from teammates Robert Braswell and Giancarlo Rosado, who scored 14 and 12 points respectively.
The game saw East Carolina stretch a slim four-point lead into a more comfortable 12-point cushion courtesy of an 8-0 run, which made the score 48-36 with just over 13 minutes left to play in the second half. Woodard was crucial in this stretch, tallying 11 of his points in the final period.
Looking ahead, both teams have games scheduled for Thursday. East Carolina is set to welcome Tulane to their home court, while Charlotte will face North Texas in an away game. The regular season of the AAC is slated to conclude on March 9.
