LOWELL, Mass. — Quion Burns delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a personal best of 28 points, while AJ Lopez sank a crucial shot with just 25 seconds remaining in overtime, leading Maine to an 86-85 victory against UMass-Lowell on Thursday night. This win marks the Black Bears’ fifth consecutive triumph.
Kellen Tynes equalized the score at 75 with just over four minutes left in regulation, but neither team managed to add to their tally until the overtime period.
In addition to his scoring, Burns also contributed eight rebounds for the Black Bears, who now stand at 13-8 overall, with a 5-1 record in the America East Conference. Lopez shot impressively, hitting 9 of 15 attempts from the floor, including 4 of 5 beyond the arc, while also converting all his free throw attempts for a total of 27 points. Tynes rounded off the team’s scoring with 16 points after shooting 4 of 11 and going 8 of 9 from the charity stripe.
For the River Hawks, who currently have a record of 13-7 and 2-3 in the conference, Quinton Mincey was the standout, scoring 20 points alongside eight rebounds and seven assists. Max Brooks provided crucial support with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks, while Cam Morris III added 16 points to the effort.
Looking ahead, UMass-Lowell is scheduled to face off against New Hampshire this Saturday, while Maine will be hosting the Wildcats later on January 30.
