The Seattle Reign have fortified their lineup by acquiring Olympic champion Lynn Williams from Gotham FC in a recent trade.
In this deal, the Reign also gained goalkeeper Cassie Miller, while Gotham received midfielder Jaelin Howell, an international roster spot, and $70,000 in allocation funds.
Williams boasts a remarkable record as the National Women’s Soccer League’s all-time leading scorer, netting 80 goals since her entry into the league in 2015 as the sixth overall pick by the now-defunct Western New York Flash.
Throughout her career in the NWSL, Williams has claimed four league championships and three NWSL Shields. In 2016, she distinguished herself by winning the league MVP award and the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals.
On the international stage, Williams has played in 75 matches for the U.S., scoring 25 goals and contributing 13 assists. She was instrumental in helping her team secure a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and a gold medal at the recently concluded Paris Games this summer.
“Lynn Williams is an outstanding player with a winning mentality and incredible goal-scoring prowess. Her influence goes beyond the field, as she is recognized globally for her leadership qualities and is an exceptional teammate,” expressed Reign general manager Lesle Gallimore.
Cassie Miller has spent one season with Gotham, where she made four starts, recorded 12 saves, and achieved one clean sheet. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has played for various clubs across Europe, as well as for the Chicago Red Stars and the Kansas City Current prior to her time with Gotham.
Jaelin Howell, who was acquired by the Reign in August from Racing Louisville, played in eight matches with the team. She was notably the No. 2 selection in the 2022 NWSL draft out of Florida State.
Howell has also represented the U.S. in five games, scoring once.
