TOULOUSE, France — In a thrilling encounter, Toulouse rallied to secure a 2-1 victory against Saint-Etienne, with the match taking place in front of an enthusiastic home crowd on Friday. This result leaves Saint-Etienne in a precarious position, firmly entrenched in the relegation zone of Ligue 1.
The visitors, struggling in their first season back in the top flight, managed to take the lead with an impressive goal. Just after the 53-minute mark, Dennis Appiah delivered a well-placed cross that enabled Lucas Stassin to score his debut goal for the team.
However, the joy for Saint-Etienne was short-lived, as Toulouse quickly responded. Barely a minute after conceding, Toulouse ignited their offense, and Shavy Babicka capitalized by heading in a cross from the left flank, equalizing the score.
From that moment on, Toulouse dominated the game, consistently applying pressure and creating numerous chances. Their efforts paid off just five minutes from the end when Zakaria Aboukhlal redeemed himself after a previous miss by scoring with a close-range header, clinching the win for Toulouse.
With this triumph, Toulouse climbed two spots in the league standings, now sitting in eighth place, while Saint-Etienne remains precariously in third place from the bottom, continuing to battle in the relegation fight.
