LONDON — Chelsea’s defender Marc Cucurella made a notable footwear change just 12 minutes into the match after his slips contributed to two early goals by Tottenham during the fierce London derby in the Premier League.
The Spanish player lost control of the ball due to slips in the 5th and 11th minutes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which allowed the hosts to capitalize on his mistakes. Goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski followed the turnovers, putting Chelsea in a tough position.
After Kulusevski’s goal extended the deficit to 2-0, Cucurella quickly dashed to the sidelines, visibly frustrated as he shrugged and gestured toward his cleats. He discarded his old shoes in exasperation before slipping into a fresh pair.
This change proved effective for Cucurella. Just six minutes later, he assisted Jadon Sancho, who scored and pulled Chelsea back into the game with a goal that made the score 2-1.
