ATLANTA — In a Sunday matchup against the Atlanta Braves, the Colorado Rockies activated left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber from the 60-day injured list, yet faced a setback with another injury to left-handed starter, Kyle Freeland.
Gomber, who was sidelined on March 27 due to a sore left shoulder, made his return to the Rockies roster. During the 2024 season, Gomber recorded a 5-12 win-loss mark with a 4.75 ERA over 30 starts. He demonstrated improvement in his recovery, achieving a 2.25 ERA in three minor league rehab outings.
In contrast, Kyle Freeland, another key left-handed pitcher for the Rockies, was sidelined with a stiff back and subsequently placed on the 15-day injured list. Freeland, who holds a 1-8 record with a 5.13 ERA, had pitched for six innings, conceding six hits and three runs during a recent loss to San Francisco last Wednesday. His IL designation is backdated to Thursday.
To compensate for Freeland’s absence, the Rockies called up left-hander Carson Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque to assume his position in the starting rotation.
Additionally, the Rockies sent rookie right-hander Zach Agnos to Albuquerque. Agnos, aged 24, experienced struggles in his recent appearances, going 0-3 with a 5.48 ERA and four saves across 20 games, with seven runs allowed over 1 1/3 innings and five walks in his last two outings.
Furthermore, the team has now transferred right-hander Ryan Feltner, who has been dealing with back spasms, to the 60-day injured list. Feltner was originally placed on the 15-day IL starting April 29.
