The Boston Red Sox made a significant move on Saturday by securing a one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler. Buehler, a two-time All-Star, took the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers when they secured their World Series title earlier this fall.

At 30 years old, Buehler had a challenging regular season in 2024, finishing with a record of 1-6 and an ERA of 5.38. This performance came after he spent the entirety of the previous year rehabilitating from Tommy John surgery. However, his postseason efforts showcased his potential, as he recorded a 1-1 playoff record with a more impressive 3.60 ERA. Notably, he also earned a save during this stretch, taking the field in the ninth inning of Game 5 in the Series against the New York Yankees. There, he retired the side without allowing a hit, striking out two batters to maintain a slim 7-6 lead.

Throughout his seven-year tenure with the Dodgers, Buehler has established an impressive career, amassing a record of 47 wins to 22 losses and maintaining a career ERA of 3.27. His talent has not gone unnoticed, as he has twice been a finalist in the Cy Young Award voting. The Red Sox are optimistic that Buehler’s previous accolades and playoff experience will contribute positively to their roster moving forward.
