Miami Dolphins part ways with experienced wideout Odell Beckham Jr.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins have officially parted ways with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., concluding his brief association with the team. Beckham’s departure was announced on Friday after he missed two consecutive training sessions due to what the franchise described as personal reasons.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel hinted that the decision was mutual, stating, “Odell and I have maintained open communication since his arrival.” McDaniel acknowledged the challenges Beckham faced in rehabbing his way into the season and remarked on the need to assess what would be beneficial for both Beckham and the team moving forward. He explained that this evaluation led to the conclusion that this was the appropriate time for the separation.

Beckham had joined the Dolphins on a one-year contract in May but was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of the season following knee surgery he underwent during the offseason. He made his first appearance with the team in Week 5 against New England but managed only nine receptions for 55 yards throughout his nine games with the Dolphins.

Initially brought in to bolster the receiving corps behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham struggled to find his place within the Dolphins’ offensive scheme. The growth of rookie wide receiver Malik Washington and the increased role of tight end Jonnu Smith limited Beckham’s opportunities, preventing him from establishing himself as the third option in the lineup.

After achieving significant success in his early NFL career with the New York Giants, Beckham has since played for four teams, including three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, as well as stints with the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams. His career highlights include winning a Super Bowl with the Rams during the 2021-22 season. Last year, he recorded 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns while playing for Baltimore before being released by the Ravens in March.
