Citadel secures 30-17 victory over Wofford with strong second-half performance

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — In an exciting college football match-up on Saturday, Cooper Wallace delivered a game-changing play with a 54-yard run in the third quarter, propelling The Citadel to a 30-17 victory over Wofford. The Bulldogs scored 17 points in the second half, sealing their win and improving their season record.

Evan Byrd contributed to The Citadel’s momentum by forcing a fumble, which was promptly recovered by Josh Cole. Following this pivotal turnover, Johnathan Bennett found Javonte Graves-Billips for a 23-yard touchdown throw early in the fourth quarter, marking the final score of the game. Bennett ended the contest with 166 passing yards, successfully connecting with Graves-Billips for both of his touchdown passes.

Wofford got off to a strong start, with Isaiah Wadsworth blocking a punt that Javario Tinch recovered to score, putting the Terriers (5-6, 3-5 Southern Conference) ahead 14-0 by the end of the first quarter. However, The Citadel responded assertively, with Graves-Billips catching a 33-yard touchdown pass, followed by the second of three field goals kicked by Ben Barnes, closing the halftime deficit to 17-13.

For Wofford, quarterback Amari Odom recorded 159 passing yards, throwing one touchdown pass to J.T. Smith Jr., but he also faced one interception. Additionally, Ryan Ingram showcased his rushing abilities, accumulating 103 yards on the ground. The game illustrated both teams’ competitive spirit, but it was The Citadel that came away with the crucial win.
