Bills’ Cook sidelined for Jets matchup, as Mosley and Moses return for New York
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Buffalo Bills will be without running back James Cook in the upcoming match against the New York Jets on Monday night due to a toe injury.
Cook has accumulated a total of 309 rushing yards this season along with four touchdowns. He was deemed questionable for the game after failing to practice at the beginning of the week, followed by a limited session on Saturday.
In Cook’s absence, Ty Johnson and Ray Davis are expected to take on the majority of the rushing responsibilities. Additionally, the Bills have elevated Frank Gore Jr. from the practice squad. Gore, who is the son of Frank Gore, the third all-time leading rusher in NFL history, will be making his debut in the league.
Quarterback Josh Allen is set to welcome back Khalil Shakir, who had missed the previous game due to an injury to his right ankle. Shakir has emerged as one of Allen’s most dependable targets, having secured 18 of 19 passes directed at him, leading the team with 230 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side, cornerback Taron Johnson will also make his return for the Bills after he sustained a broken right forearm during the season opener.
However, defensive tackle Ed Oliver will miss his second consecutive game because of a hamstring issue. Other players who will not see action for Buffalo include offensive lineman Will Clapp, linebackers Joe Andreessen and Edefuan Ulofoshio, alongside safety Mike Edwards.
For the Jets, linebacker C.J. Mosley is back after missing three games due to a toe injury. Right tackle Morgan Moses is also returning after two games out due to a knee issue.
The Jets made a move by activating defensive tackle Leki Fotu from their injured reserve, allowing him to make his first appearance for the team.
Among those inactive for the Jets are running back Israel Abanikanda, wide receiver Malachi Corley, offensive linemen Carter Warren and Max Mitchell, edge rusher Braiden McGregor, along with cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jarrick Bernard-Converse.
Furthermore, the Jets promoted tight end Anthony Firkser and safety Jalen Mills from their practice squad, releasing defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes to open a spot for Fotu in the roster.
