Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been admitted to a hospital following an injury she sustained during an official event in Luxembourg, as informed by her spokesman.
At 84 years of age, Pelosi traveled to Europe to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a significant event from World War II. According to her spokesman, Ian Krager, she is currently receiving excellent medical care and will not be able to participate in the remaining scheduled events of her trip.
Details regarding the nature of her injury have not been disclosed, leaving many concerned about her well-being. Krager did, however, mention that Pelosi is eager to return home to the United States in the near future.
Pelosi was first elected to Congress in 1987 and has held the position of speaker on two occasions. Although she stepped down from her leadership role two years prior, she continued her service in Congress, being re-elected to represent her San Francisco district in November.
Despite stepping back from the role of speaker, Pelosi has remained actively involved within the party, engaging with fellow Democrats both privately and publicly. Just last weekend, she participated in the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington and was present on the Senate floor earlier this week for the swearing-in ceremony of her former Democratic colleagues, Adam Schiff of California and Andy Kim of New Jersey.
The news of Pelosi’s injury coincides with a recent incident involving Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who also faced a health setback after tripping and falling in the Senate. McConnell sustained a wrist sprain and facial cuts and experienced stiffness in his leg after the fall, which led him to miss Senate votes last Thursday. He is set to step down from his leadership role at the end of this year.
