In Los Angeles, a judge has mandated that a man accused of crashing his car into Jennifer Aniston’s property must undergo a mental-health court evaluation to assess his competency to stand trial for felony stalking and vandalism charges.
Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, aged 48, made an appearance in a Los Angeles courtroom, shirtless and covered with a blanket, while standing behind glass in the custody area. During the hearing, Carwyle remained silent, with his lawyer entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
According to prosecutors, Carwyle, hailing from Mississippi, had been persistently harassing Aniston through a barrage of voicemails, emails, and social media messages over a span of two years, leading up to the incident where he allegedly drove into her gate on Monday.
Judge Keith L. Schwartz expressed skepticism about Carwyle’s ability to comprehend instructions when a prosecutor requested that the defendant, who remains in jail, be formally directed to stay away from Aniston.
Carwyle’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Toral Malik, commented on the matter, stating, “I don’t believe him staying away from Ms. Aniston will be an issue at this time.” However, the judge, urged by the prosecution, issued a restraining order regardless.
“You are not to have any contact with Jennifer Aniston under any conditions,” Judge Schwartz asserted.
It is reported that Aniston was at home during the incident when Carwyle drove his Chrysler PT Cruiser through the entrance of her lavish Bel Air residence, resulting in significant damage. A security personnel intercepted him in the driveway until the police arrived and detained him.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the event.
An attorney representing Aniston present at the hearing chose not to comment, and other representatives of the “Friends” actress have yet to respond to any requests for comments.
Carwyle is also contending with an additional charge related to the threat of substantial bodily harm. His potential conviction could lead to a prison sentence of up to three years.
Following the court proceedings, Malik did not engage with reporters.
Jennifer Aniston purchased her midcentury mansion sitting on a 3.4-acre property for approximately $21 million back in 2012, as reported by Architectural Digest.
Renowned for her role in the hit NBC series “Friends,” Aniston became a prominent television figure during the show’s decade-long run. She secured an Emmy Award for best lead actress in a comedy for her performance and has been nominated for the accolade nine more times. Presently, she stars in “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+.
