During the 2024 presidential election, Barron Trump opted out of serving as an at-large delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention (RNC), citing “prior commitments” in a statement issued by his mother, Melania Trump. “While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” Melania stated.
The convention, held in Milwaukee in July, saw all of Donald Trump’s children in attendance except for Barron. However, Barron made his campaign debut shortly before the RNC, appearing at a rally to support his father.
In a separate interview, Melania Trump revealed that Barron played a pivotal role behind the scenes of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Speaking to Fox & Friends, she shared that her son was “very vocal” and provided strategic insights on whom his father should engage with during the election.
Melania also reflected on her role as a mother, explaining her approach to raising Barron as an independent individual. Now 18, Barron made headlines in September when he began attending a New York City university after graduating from Florida’s Oxbridge Academy in May. His decision to attend college in New York was fully his own, according to Melania, who said she respected his desire to remain in the city and study. Barron was seen on campus at the start of the semester, accompanied by Secret Service agents, and his college choice had been a topic of speculation throughout the year.
Donald Trump, 78, confirmed the choice in September, describing Barron’s admission to the New York-based institution as part of a broader list of college acceptances, calling it a “good” school. Earlier in August, he had teased the news to the New York Post without revealing specifics.
