HOUSTON — In a strategic move, the Cincinnati Reds bolstered their lineup by acquiring outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe from the San Diego Padres. This trade, confirmed on Friday, involved sending minor league right-hander Andrew Moore and cash considerations in exchange for Joe.
Connor Joe, a seasoned 32-year-old player, primarily played this year with Triple-A El Paso and managed to sign a one-year deal with the Padres worth $1 million in February. While with the Padres this season, Joe had no hits across nine at-bats in seven games. Over his six-year career, he has maintained a batting average of .241, having previously played for teams such as the San Francisco Giants, the Colorado Rockies, and the Pittsburgh Pirates as well as the Padres.
Andrew Moore, the player headed to the Padres, showcased a 4.15 ERA over 8 2/3 innings while pitching for Double-A Chattanooga this season. Moore became a part of the Reds’ system after being acquired from Seattle in the 2022 trade package dealing with Luis Castillo.
In order to accommodate Joe on the 40-man roster, the Reds decided to move outfielder Tyler Callihan to the 60-day injured list. Callihan is expected to be out for at least two months following a procedure to repair a broken left forearm suffered earlier this week.
The Cincinnati Reds announced these roster changes during their game against the Houston Astros on Friday night.
