ELON, N.C. — In an impressive performance on Thursday night, TJ Simpkins was pivotal in leading the Elon Phoenix to an 83-71 victory over Monmouth. Simpkins came off the bench to contribute an impressive 26 points to the team’s effort.
He demonstrated an effective shooting touch, going 7 for 13 overall, which included sinking 1 of 3 attempts from beyond the arc and making an impressive 11 of 13 free throws. Alongside Simpkins, TK Simpkins also played a significant role, netting 18 points through 7 of 11 from the charity stripe, and converting 5 of 10 field goal attempts, including 1 of 5 from three-point territory. Nick Dorn rounded out the scoring for the Phoenix with 13 points, shooting 3 of 9 from the field and hitting all 4 of his free throw attempts.
On the opposing side, the Monmouth Hawks, who now hold a record of 5-15 and 3-4 in conference play, were spearheaded in scoring by Abdi Bashir Jr. He concluded the game with 22 points and also contributed four assists. His teammate Jack Collins delivered a solid performance as well, recording 16 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and totaling four assists and four steals. Cornelius Robinson Jr. added to the scoreline with nine points for Monmouth.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to take the court again on Saturday. Elon will host Charleston from South Carolina, while Monmouth will travel to face William & Mary in their next matchup.
