NEW ORLEANS — A supplementary performer at a Super Bowl halftime show now faces two misdemeanor charges, following an incident where he sprinted across the Superdome field brandishing a flag with the inscription “Sudan and Free Gaza,” revealed Louisiana State Police. This development comes approximately four and a half months after the notable event.

The individual in question, 41-year-old Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, voluntarily presented himself to law enforcement to confront charges of resisting a police officer and disrupting the peace by interfering with a lawful assembly. Accompanied by his legal representative, Nantambu surrendered and was processed at the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The flag-waving escapade occurred during the halftime show led by rapper Kendrick Lamar on February 9. Despite being apprehended on the spot for his unsanctioned display, Nantambu had not faced charges until now. At the time, the NFL declared Nantambu would be indefinitely prohibited from attending league stadiums and events.

According to a police statement, while Nantambu was legally on the field as he was contracted as an extra performer, his provocative actions were unauthorized. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy extended his appreciation to the investigators involved with the case.

McCarthy highlighted the league’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its events, emphasizing, “We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
