SAN FRANCISCO — Barry Bonds, the former baseball star known for setting the all-time home run record, will soon have a statue dedicated to him outside the San Francisco Giants’ home stadium, as stated by the team’s leadership. This development was confirmed by the Giants’ President and CEO during a recent radio interview.

Larry Baer, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Giants, was questioned about the potential statue during an on-air appearance on San Francisco’s 95.7 The Game. Baer mentioned that plans for a statue honoring Bonds are indeed “on the radar.” However, he did not provide specific details regarding when this will take place.

“Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up,” remarked Baer. “We don’t have the exact location and the exact date and the exact timing. … It’s coming. All I can say is it’s coming.”

Barry Bonds spent the last 15 of his 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) playing for San Francisco, during which he hit an impressive 586 of his career’s 762 home runs while wearing a Giants jersey from 1993 through 2007. Bonds set the MLB single-season record in 2001 with 73 home runs and secured his 756th to surpass Hank Aaron, a significant milestone achieved during a home game against Washington on August 7, 2007.

At present, five statues of Giants legends stand outside Oracle Park, immortalizing Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry, and Orlando Cepeda. In 2018, the Giants formally retired Bonds’ iconic No. 25 jersey.

Though Bonds boasts an impressive resume as a seven-time MVP and a 14-time All-Star, he has not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. During his decade-long eligibility on the Baseball Writers Association of America’s Hall of Fame ballot, Bonds did not reach the necessary 75% vote share, a shortcoming largely attributed to persistent allegations of steroid use that shadowed him through his later years in the league. The Contemporary Player Committee also opted not to elect Bonds in 2022, though his status may be reassessed by the committee in the future.
