CHARLESTON, S.C. — Bo Montgomery’s impressive performance, scoring 18 points, propelled UNC Wilmington to a thrilling 85-83 victory over Charleston on Thursday night.

With just 26 seconds remaining in the game, Montgomery calmly sank two free throws to secure a four-point advantage for his team.

Montgomery also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing five rebounds for the Seahawks, who now hold a record of 15-5 overall and 5-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association.

Donovan Newby was another key player for UNC Wilmington, scoring 17 points while going 6 for 11 from the field, including three successful attempts from three-point range. Sean Moore also played well, finishing the game with 15 points and an efficient 7 of 10 shooting.

For the Cougars, Derrin Boyd was the standout performer, netting 24 points in a valiant effort. AJ Smith added 18 points to the score, and Ante Brzovic contributed 16 points along with eight rebounds for Charleston, who share the same record as the Seahawks at 15-5 and 5-2 in the conference.

In the first half, Newby was instrumental for UNC Wilmington, delivering 12 points and helping the Seahawks to a 49-42 lead at halftime. Over the second half, Montgomery emerged as a key player, leading the scoring for his team with 10 points.

Looking ahead, both teams have upcoming contests on Saturday. UNC Wilmington will take on Hampton at home, while Charleston will face Elon on the road.
