Stewart scores 20 to guide Santa Clara over San Diego 81-80

SAN DIEGO — In an exciting matchup on Thursday evening, Santa Clara edged out San Diego with a narrow 81-80 victory, thanks in large part to Carlos Stewart’s standout performance, where he contributed 20 points.
Stewart showcased his scoring ability by hitting 5 of 10 shots, including a solid 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, and went 6 for 8 from the charity stripe, helping the Broncos improve to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the West Coast Conference.

Camaron Tongue also made notable contributions, adding 11 points to the scoreboard while shooting 3 for 5 from the field and converting 5 of 6 free throw attempts. Adama Bal matched his efforts with an additional 11 points, although his shooting performance included a less-than-stellar 1 for 6 from three-point territory, while hitting 4 of 5 free throws.

For the Toreros, Kjay Bradley Jr. emerged as the leading scorer, netting 23 points along with six assists and three steals. Santiago Trouet put forth a commendable effort as well, contributing 21 points and capturing 11 rebounds, along with two steals. Steven Jamerson II rounded out the scoring for San Diego with 14 points and six rebounds.

During the first half, Tongue registered six points as Santa Clara took a 35-27 lead into halftime. In the second half, Stewart’s impressive 16-point contribution was crucial for the Broncos as they secured their one-point victory over San Diego.
