Dixon scores 28 as Villanova defeats Butler 73-65

INDIANAPOLIS — On Wednesday night, Eric Dixon played a pivotal role in leading Villanova to a 73-65 victory over Butler, contributing a significant 28 points.

Dixon exhibited impressive shooting skills, connecting on 10 of 20 attempts overall, including 5 of 10 from beyond the arc, and made all three of his free throws. Villanova improved their record to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big East Conference with this win. Wooga Poplar added to the Wildcats’ offensive efforts with 18 points, shooting 7 of 13 from the field and grabbing 15 rebounds. Jordan Longino also made his mark, scoring 12 points by hitting 3 of 7 shots, including one of three from three-point territory, and converting five of six free throw attempts.

For the Bulldogs, Jahmyl Telfort was the standout player, achieving a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, alongside contributing six assists and two steals. Additionally, Pierre Brooks scored 10 points, but the team could not halt their six-game losing streak, leaving their record at 7-7 and 0-3 in the conference.

Dixon’s performance began with 11 points in the first half, in which Villanova found themselves trailing slightly at halftime with a score of 31-30. However, his strong second half, where he netted another 17 points, was crucial in securing the eight-point win for the Wildcats.

Looking ahead, both Villanova and Butler are set to return to the court on Saturday. Villanova will host DePaul while Butler is scheduled to face St. John’s on the road.
