Marlins come back with 5 runs in the 9th inning to defeat Rockies 9-8 with Sánchez’s game-winning home run.

The Miami Marlins staged an impressive ninth-inning comeback to defeat the Colorado Rockies 9-8 on Tuesday night, with Jesús Sánchez sealing the victory with a three-run homer. Despite trailing 6-0 early in the game and being down by four runs entering the ninth inning, the Marlins managed to rally back, aided by Jake Burger’s two-run double before Sánchez’s crucial home run, marking the team’s largest deficit overcome this season.
Prior to this game, the Marlins had a 5-76 record when trailing after eight innings, while the Rockies were 41-8 when leading after eight. The Rockies’ loss saw them surrender their largest lead of the season, highlighting Miami’s resilience in the face of adversity.
Miami’s Kyle Stowers homered and tripled, and Griffin Conine, son of former Marlins outfielder Jeff Conine, recorded his first two career hits, a triple and a double, following his major league debut the previous day.
George Soriano earned the win for the Marlins, pitching a scoreless eighth inning, with Angel Chivili taking the loss for Colorado after giving up Sánchez’s game-winning home run. Calvin Faucher secured the save by striking out all three batters he faced.
Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar had an impressive performance with four RBIs and three extra-base hits, including two home runs, while Charlie Blackmon and Jacob Stallings each contributed two hits for the Rockies.
Additionally, Blackmon broke a record with his 133rd home run at Coors Field, surpassing Vinny Castilla for the most home runs by a Colorado player at the ballpark.
In injury news, Miami’s INF Tristan Gray was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics, and Rockies’ OF Brenton Doyle was sidelined for a second consecutive game due to knee inflammation, with Sam Hilliard taking his place in center field.
Next up, Miami’s RHP Max Meyer will face Colorado’s LHP Kyle Freeland in the upcoming game on Wednesday.
