CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Additional charges have been laid against two individuals in connection with the murder of a transgender man, who was allegedly subjected to severe torture over a prolonged period before his death in upstate New York.

Law enforcement officials from the New York State Police announced the arrests of Kimberly Sochia, age 29, from Canandaigua, and Thomas Eaves, age 21, from Geneva. Both have been charged with second-degree murder as of Thursday.

Just last week, five others were charged with the same crime concerning the case of Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old transgender man. His body was discovered discarded in a field earlier this month. Investigators allege that Nordquist endured a prolonged period of violence and torture, lasting more than a month, perpetrated by multiple individuals.

Following their arrests, Sochia and Eaves were taken into custody and are awaiting arraignment in county jail.

The status of their legal representation remains uncertain, as no information has been available regarding whether they have attorneys. Furthermore, the public defender’s office has not made any statements regarding the case.

Nordquist hailed from Minnesota and had relocated to the Finger Lakes area in September. He was reported missing on February 9.

Authorities indicated that the suspects were acquainted with one another, identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and emphasized that there is no indication that the crime was motivated by hatred.
