CHICAGO — Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll is contending with a chip fracture in his left wrist, as revealed by manager Torey Lovullo. The duration of Carroll’s absence remains uncertain as doctors provide further evaluations.

Lovullo shared this update with the media following Arizona’s decisive 10-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. He mentioned that Carroll would undergo additional consultations to determine the complete diagnosis and the timeline required for his recovery.

Carroll has been sidelined since a pitch struck his left hand last Wednesday during a game in Toronto. Initial X-rays didn’t disclose any fracture. The discovery of a chip fracture later on has puzzled the team.

“It’s somewhat perplexing for us,” Lovullo commented on the surprising fracture. “It’s located on the back of his hand, although the ball made contact with the side of his hand. This situation underscores the velocity of today’s pitches and how they can cause such injuries.”

This season, Carroll is batting .255 with 20 home runs and 44 RBIs. He earned the title of NL rookie of the year and was celebrated as an All-Star player in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks also faced other injury challenges during Monday’s game. Infielders Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor both had to exit the game due to injuries. Suárez departed after a pitch from Shane Smith hit his right hand in the first inning. It was later confirmed that he had sustained a right-hand contusion, although X-rays returned without signs of fracturing.

Naylor experienced discomfort in his shoulder following a swing in the second inning. By the fourth inning, he had to leave the game after grounding out. His current status is day-to-day with right shoulder discomfort.
